Thailand’s steel demand expected to rise in 2015

The Iron and Steel Institute of Thailand (ISIT) has predicted that domestic demand in 2015 will be up to 18.53 million tons that is an increase of 6.8% than in 2014.

Steel demand in automotive and engineering industries will keep rising by around 15%. Demand from building, home appliance and machinery sectors is expected to raise by 8.3%, 3% and 2% respectively.

The country’s consumption totaled 17.34 million tons in 2014, dropping by 3.5% from the last year. Meanwhile, the country’s imports of finished steel reached 11.9 million tons, decreasing by 2.9% year on year.
