MITI Completes Preliminary Anti-dumping Probe On Steel Coils From China, Vietnam
The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has completed
the preliminary anti-dumping investigation on the imports of steel coils
from China and Vietnam.
In a statement Thursday, MITI said under Section 23 of the
Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Act 1993, it found there was
sufficient evidence to continue with further probe on the importation of
pre-painted, painted or colour-coated steel coils (PPCCSC) from the
alleged countries.
The petition was filed by FIW Steel Sdn Bhd on behalf of the domestic
industry producing PPCCSC, who alleged the Chinese and Vietnamese
imports were cheaper than the selling price in the domestic market of
the alleged countries.
"The government has decided to impose a provisional measure, which
shall be in the form of provisional anti-dumping duties guaranteed by a
security equivalent to the amount of the dumping margin determined in
the preliminary investigation.
"Provisional anti-dumping duties, from 5.68 per cent to 52.10 per cent,
will be applied on imports from the alleged countries and shall be
effective not more than 120 days from the date of the government
gazette," it said.
MITI said based on the findings of the investigation, a final determination would be made no later than Jan 23, 2016.
Interested parties could have the access to the non-confidential
version of the public report on the preliminary determination by
submitting a written request to MITI.
