AYS Ventures partners 3D modelling experts

Steel products manufacturer and distributor AYS Ventures Bhd has teamed up with Japanese firms to enhance its 3D steel structure modelling capacity.

Called AOK Engineering Service Sdn Bhd, the joint-venture (JV) firm will comprise AYS Ventures, Japan-based Okaya & Co Ltd and Kondo Steel Corp.

AYS Ventures ED Oh Yung Sim (picture) said AYS Ventures owns 45% interest in the JV company while Kondo Steel, Okaya & Co and Okaya International (M) Sdn Bhd have a 45%, 6% and 4% stake respectively in the firm.

He said through the partnership, the firm will be able to employ building information modelling (BIM) with Japanese fabrication know-how to produce detailed 3D steel structure models.

Oh said the JV firm will also adopt Japanese industrial practice in supporting the steel fabrication industry.

“The new company will start developing 3D models using BIM technology to support our major clients in Japan for existing projects and provide training to our local engineers,” Oh told reporters after the signing of the JV agreement between AYS Ventures, Okaya & Co and Kondo Steel last Friday.

He said the target market for the new expertise will be the Asia-Pacific region especially servicing multinational corporations.

“We shall also be making this service available to our Malaysian customers in the very near future,” he said, adding that the service is expected to be provided to local customers by the end of 2016.

The technology, he said, improves the management of construction projects information, enhances collaborative processes and improves productivity.

Oh said the new company plans to digitalise all engineering details and produce manufacturing numerical control data that can be sent directly to the machining equipment.

He said this process would not only increase precision, but it reduces the dependence on labour especially when the industry is facing a shortage of skilled workers.
