Brazilian steel sheet imports in September drop 69% year over year
Brazilian imports of carbon steel sheet products in September fell
68.98% year over year to 35,214 mt, data from the foreign trade ministry
showed Thursday.
In September 2014, the country imported 113,536 mt of flats.
Imports
of hot-rolled coil in the month totaled 4,769 mt, down 73.7% from
18,137 mt imported in the year ago month. Cold-rolled imports dropped
60.5% to 22,046 mt, from 55,802 mt in September 2014. For hot-dip
galvanized, imports shrank 77.2% to 13,164 mt, from the 57,716 mt
imported a year before.
The value of imports of HRC in September
totaled $2.34 million FOB, while for CRC the total value was $11.43
million and for HDG it was $8.32 million.
In January-September,
Brazil imported 508,971 mt of carbon steel sheet, or 33.46% less than in
the same period last year, when it imported 764,988 mt of flat steel
goods.
Total imports in the nine-month period were valued at
$487.32 million FOB. In January-September 2014, total imports were
valued at $719,21 million.
