South American crude steel output plummets in September

According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by South American countries edged lower significantly during the month of September this year. The total monthly output declined by 8.6% to 3.467 Million tonnes.

The total crude steel production by Argentina during September was 446,000 tonnes, down marginally by 3.8% than the September 2014 production of 464,000 tonnes. Brazil produced 2.501 Million tonnes of crude steel, dropping by 13% when compared to 2.875 Million tonnes production achieved during September last year. The Chilean September crude steel production soared higher by 24.5% from 76,000 tonnes in September ‘14 to 95,000 tonnes in September this year. The total crude steel production by Colombia rose nearly 1.5% to 110,000 tonnes in September this year.

Ecuador’s crude steel declined marginally by 2.4% on year-on-year basis. The crude steel output by Ecuador was 60,000 tonnes in September this year, lower when matched with 61,000 tonnes during September last year.  Paraguay’s crude steel output remained flat during the month.

The crude steel output by Peru increased by 10.9% year-on-year. The crude steel output of Uruguay too rose 7.8% from 9,000 tonnes in September last year to 10,000 tonnes in September ‘15. Venezuelan production was up sharply by 35.5% year-on-year from 103,000 tonnes to 140,000 tonnes.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first nine months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
