Posco’s new steel recognized for ability to block out noise
One of Posco’s world-first steels, called high-manganese steel, received
a grade one certification by the state-run Korea Institute of Civil
Engineering and Building Technology for its ability to reduce noise by
up to 90 percent. It is the first time a steel has been given top marks
for its ability to block noise.
In Korea, apartments are
supposed to be built with materials like styrofoam or rubber to keep
noise below 58 decibels. But Posco’s new steel kept noise below 43
decibels during an experiment at a state-run certification institute.
With the new recognition, Posco hopes to supply some 20,000 tons of this
steel to local apartment construction market.
