Dongkuk Steel is to make a new investment in the colored steel plate market.
The company announced on Nov. 18 that it will invest a total of 25 billion won (US$21.35 million) in the Busan plant by the second half of next year to build additional color-coated steel sheet production lines with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons. Once the expansion project is completed, the Busan plant will have a capacity of 750,000 tons from the current 650,000 tons. It is the world’s largest production capacity for a single colored steel plate manufacturing plant.
The new investment is aiming at the high-quality thick color-coated plate market among building interior and exterior materials.
For the building materials market, just like curtain walls, steel and aluminum sheets are painted after manufacturing. However, the new production line will employ a new technology that does away with a separate process to spray on the steel or aluminum sheet
The company expects that it will be able to make an annual sales revenue of more than 100 billion won (85.4 million) by creating more than 30,000 tons of new demand in the domestic color-coated steel sheet market alone.
