MITI Undertaking Study To Set Up SPV To Import Hot-Rolled Coils
The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) is contemplating
a study to establish a special purpose vehicle to import hot-rolled
coils (HRCs) and downstream products into the country.
Its Minister, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, said the matter was still
being considered after several rounds of discussions with relevant
parties.
"We have to first consult stakeholders and relevant authorities. This is important as we need their support.
"However, the matter has yet to be raised at the higher level as it's
still being studied by MITI," he told reporters after launching the
Young Entrepreneurs Congress 2015 here Tuesday.
According to a news report, Megasteel Sdn Bhd had proposed to establish
the special-purpose vehicle solely to import HRCs and downstream
products.
"We cannot rush into a decision as it will have a far reaching impact," Mustapa added.
