Brazil’s flat steel product exports zoomed in 2015

As per the statistics released by the Brazilian Ministry of Development and Trade, the country’s flat steel product exports surged higher considerably during 2015. The exports jumped higher by whopping 84.3% when compared with those during the same month a year before.

As per data, Brazil’s flat steel product exports during the year totaled 2.65 million mt, 84.3% higher when compared with the exports of 1.44 million mt recorded during 2014.

Meantime, the country’s exports of hot-rolled steel goods surged higher by 80% year-on-year to 2.04 million mt during the entire year 2015. The exports had totaled only 1.13 million mt during the year before. Also, cold rolled coil exports were up 48.4% at 260,772 mt in 2015. This is when compared with the cold-rolled coil exports of 175,725 mt during 2014. Meantime, hot-dipped galvanized exports too increased sharply by 171.71% year-on-year to 346,545 mt during the previous year in comparison with 127,527 mt in 2014.

The exports during the year 2015 were valued at $1.21 billion FOB. The value of exports has jumped significantly by nearly 37% from $881.69 million FOB during 2014. The shipments of hot-rolled coils were valued at $844.11 million FOB. The value of cold-rolled coil exports jumped higher to $145.55 million FOB in 2015. The value of hot-dipped galvanized shipments increased $219.76 million FOB during the month.

Brazil’s exports of hot-rolled steel goods have dropped marginally by 3% year-on-year to 174,876 mt during Dec ‘15. The exports had totaled 180,289 mt during the same month a year before. Also, cold rolled coil exports plunged by over 79% at 6,716 mt in December last year. This is when compared with the cold-rolled coil exports of 32,537 mt during Dec ‘14. The hot-dipped galvanized exports increased sharply by 31% year-on-year to 39,201 mt during December 2015.
