Crude steel output by Asian region dropped 7% in January

According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by Asia dropped by 6.9% during the month of January this year when compared with the same month a year before.

The total crude steel production by China during January this year was 63.214 Million tonnes (based on CISA estimates), edging lower by 7.8% when compared with the production of 68.581 Mt during January 2015. India produced 7.418 Million tonnes of crude steel, marginally lower by 1.2% when compared with 7.506 Million tonnes production achieved during January 2015.

Japan reported 2.8% decline in monthly crude steel output during the month. Japan's crude steel output dropped from 9.022 Million tonnes in January 2015 to 8.772 Million tonnes in the same month this year.

South Korean crude steel production edged lower by 4.5% from 5.932 Million tonnes in January 2015 to 5.667 Million tonnes in January this year. Meantime, Pakistan’s crude steel output totaled 255,000 tonnes during the month. The country’s crude steel output during Jan ’16 climbed higher by almost 27% year-on-year.

The Taiwanese Jan ‘16 crude steel output has dropped considerably by 19.5% year-on-year to 1.600 Million tonnes from 1.987 Million tonnes during same month last year. Also, Thailand’s crude steel output has dropped sharply by nearly 32% from 367,000 tonnes during January last year to almost 250,000 tonnes this year.
