World crude steel production dips marginally in March

According to the most recent statistics published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by 66 member countries was 137.322 million tonnes (Mt) in March this year, down marginally by 0.5% upon comparison with production of 138.002 Mt during same month a year before.

The total crude steel production by EU-28 countries during March this year was 14.124 Million tonnes (Mt), sharply down by 8.7% than the March 2015 production of 15.474 Mt. Other European countries produced 2.951 Million tonnes of crude steel, slightly up by 0.7% when compared to 2.929 Million tonnes production achieved during March 2015. The CIS countries’ crude steel production increased marginally by 2.3% from 8.546 Mt to 8.742 Mt. The total crude steel production by North America was up slightly by 3.6% from 9.154 Mt in March 2015 to 9.483 Mt in March this year.

The total crude steel production by South American region during March this year dropped by 13.3% to 3.211 Mt. African countries produced 1.032 Mt of crude steel, considerably lower by 17.2% when compared to 1.247 Million tonnes production achieved during March 2015. The total crude steel production by the Middle East countries during March this year was 2.324 Million tonnes(Mt), higher by 3.9% when compared with the March 2015 output of 2.236 Mt. The Asian countries’ crude steel production increased marginally by 0.8% from 94.309 Mt to 95.072 Mt. The total crude steel production by Oceania region declined by 5.3% from 0.403 Mt in March 2015 to 0.382 Mt in March this year.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first three months in 2016 in comparison with those during same period in 2015.
