US crude steel output up 5% in March, says worldsteel

According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by North American countries increased by 3.6% during the month of March year-on-year. The production totaled 9.483 Mt in March this year as against 9.154 Mt recorded in Mar ‘15.

The total crude steel production by Canada during March this year was 1.145 Mt, rising significantly by 7.9% when compared with the March 2015 production. The US produced 6.748 Million tonnes of crude steel, slightly higher by 4.9% when compared to 6.434 Million tonnes production achieved during March 2015. The total crude steel production by Mexico edged lower by 1.5% from 1.558 Mt in March ‘15 to 1.535 Mt in March this year.

The Cuban crude steel production declined sharply by 45.4% year-on-year to 15,000 tonnes. The crude steel output by El Salvador was estimated at 10,000 tonnes in March this year, rising sharply by 17.8% when compared with March last year. Guatemala produced 30,000 tonnes in March, higher by 8.8% when matched with the production during the same month a year before. The crude steel output by Trinidad & Tobago nosedived to zero in March this year from 37,000 tonnes during same month the previous year.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first three months in 2016 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
