Malaysian Steel Scrap imports from US, Singapore plummet in Q1

Malaysia steel scrap imports from United States and Singapore plummeted during the first quarter of this year, as per the latest figures from the Malaysian Department of Statistics.

Singapore was the largest exporter of steel scrap to Malaysia followed by United States and Japan.

Malaysia's steel scrap imports from Singapore declined drastically by 71% year-on-year to 17,000 ton during January to March this year. The share of Singapore in Malaysia's total scrap imports was 38.2 percent.

Malaysian ferrous scrap imports from United States dropped sharply by 66% year-on-year to 12,000 ton during the first quarter if this year. The share of United States in Malaysia's total scrap imports was 26 percent.
